If you've never attended an astronomy show before, you should put it on your to-do list and find out when the next event is occurring near you.

Astronomy shows provide a unique opportunity to meet other enthusiastic astronomers and connect with the big astronomy brands under one roof.

Practical Astronomy Show

So much of what we all do is online, and that even includes practical astronomy these days, whether it's purchasing a telescope or attending your local amateur astronomy society meetings via web chat.

I co-founded the Practical Astronomy Show, an annual meeting of amateur astronomers and purveyors of astronomy and astrophotography equipment.

In 2025, PAS takes place on Saturday 15 March, and this is my guide as to what you should expect, and why astronomy shows such as this are so important, whether you're a seasoned observer or a beginner stargazer.

Practical Astronomy Show

Whether you’re planning a new astrophotography setup, are on the hunt for new accessories or simply after some advice, astronomy shows are an excellent way to get inspired in the hobby, whilst learning from experienced and knowledgeable peers in the community.

Here are seven reasons why you should go.

Leading brands are represented

Big astronomy brands are often present at astronomy shows, giving you a great choice of equipment to match all budgets. At PAS 2025, for example, we'll have astronomy equipment manufacturers like Altair Astro, Celestron, iOptron, Sky-Watcher and ZWO.

In-person meet and greet

At astronomy shows you get the opportunity to meet astronomy equipment suppliers face-to-face, to talk about telescope or camera features, get advice and determine what’s most suitable for your style of astronomy. This is particularly beneficial these days, when most gear is marketed online.

Physical products on display

There’s nothing like seeing your next astronomy purchase up close, and with products on display, astronomy shows are a welcome change in our digital-focused era.

Latest releases

Astronomy show vendors always bring their very latest products, so you’re pretty much guaranteed to see something new when you visit.

Deals and discounts

There are always discounts to be had from vendors at the Practical Astronomy Show, so keep a look out for offers on the day!

Beginners welcome

Astronomy clubs a good way to explore this captivating hobby, and you'll often find them exhibiting at astronomy shows.

For example, the two biggest astronomy organisations in the UK have booths at the Practical Astronomy Show: the British Astronomical Association and the Society for Popular Astronomy. Both are staffed by welcoming members who can assist you (and your kids) as you take your first steps.

It's free

This last point may not apply to every astronomy show, but it does apply to PAS. The Practical Astronomy Show is free to attend in 2025. There are no parking charges and the venue is centrally located at NAEC Stoneleigh exhibition centre.
