C/2014 Q2 Lovejoy is a long-period comet discovered on 17 August 2014 by amateur astronomer and astrophotographer Terry Lovejoy.
The comet's blue-green glow is the result of diatomic carbon and water molecules.
Originating in the Oort Cloud, it has an orbital period of around 19,000 years.
It passed closest to the Sun on 30 January 2015 at a distance of 193,000,000 km.
